Jini Berman has been with Jazz Pharmaceuticals since its early beginnings in 2003. She began her career in Human Resources in 1993 when she moved from New York City to San Francisco and joined Ziff Davis Publishing Company, first as the assistant to the VP, Human Resources, and then as an HR generalist supporting the new media ventures and specializing in recruiting. In NYC Jini spent over a decade as a community organizer working with inner city youth programs. Jini hold a BA in Social Sciences from C.U.N.Y..
Skjonnhet Boyle is the HR Generalist at Five Prime Therapeutics in the new Mission Bay district of San Francisco. She has five years of progressive HR experience primarily in biotech and nine years of successfully operating in startup biotech and high tech environments. She holds her BA in Social Sciences from CSU Chico and recently attained her PHR in December of 2007.
Britt Huber is a Human Resources management professional with over 15 years of national and international experience in leadership roles. As a Generalist, Britt has focused on all aspects of Human Resources, and her portfolio of industry experience includes biotechnology/life sciences, public relations, staffing/search, technology, and consulting. Until most recently, Britt served as a Director of HR at an emerging pharmaceutical company, where she built the HR department and evaluated, implemented, and managed all human resource activities, strategies, policies and processes. Britt holds a M.B.A. degree from St. Mary’s College, Moraga, California. She is also a frequent guest lecturer in HR Strategy and Talent Management at the University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland and has working knowledge in German, French, Italian, and Spanish.

She is a certified coach, instructor and facilitator, working exclusively in the high tech/biotech industry whose focus is in supporting individuals and teams to achieve their highest level of performance and satisfaction. Steven Kowalski, Ph.D. works with Genentech’s executives and key talent across the company to build leadership and organizational effectiveness. This includes the development and delivery of customized, executive-sponsored development solutions, high-potential development, enterprise-wide innovation solutions, and initiatives designed to retain top talent. Steven is also the founder and president of Creative License™. He has provided organizational development consulting, training, and entrepreneurial coaching to clients in the U.S. and Europe since 1995. Steven helps clients achieve sustainable improvements in the way people strategize, innovate, work together, sell, and serve customers. He received his Ph.D. in adult learning and organizational creativity from UCLA.
Danielle Olander is the Director of Human Resources for Portola Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Prior to joining Portola, she held positions as a generalist with SuperGen, Inc and Sugen, Inc., she currently has over fourteen years of human resources experience, with nine years in the biotech/pharma industry. Danielle holds a BS in human resources from Colorado Technical University. Danielle's main focus centers around continuous process and communication improvement by understanding the roadblocks that keep employees from communicating with their managers and achieving their goals. A BOLD member since 2005, Danielle now volunteers on the BOLD core team and programs committee.
Carol Parkinson is the Director of Human Resources at Zeltiq, a privately held medical device company in Pleasanton. In her 14 plus years in HR roles, she has worked in public and private companies in the healthcare, semiconductor and software arenas and has been at the director level for the last 10 years. Her experience spans the whole HR lifecycle in all HR functions for start-up companies to public company merger integration. She was originally an Occupational Therapist, specializing in psychiatry, work rehabilitation and ergonomics. She graduated with a bachelor’s in Occupational Therapy and then went on to attain an MBA through the University of Phoenix. She has been an SPHR since 2002 and facilitated NCHRA certification study groups from 2003 to 2008.
Sandra Poland turned her focus to organization development consulting after 20 years of leading large-scale change in complex multinational companies. Working with leaders at all levels and across multiple industries, Sandra acquired significant experience in implementing corporate restructuring, merger and acquisitions, cultural transformation, organization effectiveness and process improvement initiatives. Now, as a consultant, trusted advisor and change agent, she leverages her extensive background to partner with senior business and HR leaders to design organization development solutions that build capability and enable business strategy. Prior to establishing Sustainable Change, LLC in 2009, Sandra worked at Novartis Pharmaceuticals, BOC Gases and AT&T in a variety of senior HR roles including: Organization Development, HR Business Partner, and Learning and Development. Sandra earned an MS in General Management from Stevens Institute of Technology and a BA in Human Resource and Organization Behavior from the University of San Francisco.
Frank Spada is an HR business partner with over a decade of experience in dynamic life sciences and technology companies. Frank is currently a Talent Consultant at SuccessFactors, an HCM software company. Prior to that, he served as the Senior Director of Human Resources at Anesiva, Inc., where he managed the organization’s ramp-up to commercialization and subsequent restructuring to a virtual specialty pharmaceutical company in January 2009. Prior to that, he served as the Director of Human Resources at CoTherix, Inc. through the company’s successful product launch and acquisition by Actelion Pharmaceuticals. Frank also held an HR management role at Discovery Partners International and various other consulting and recruiting roles in the life sciences and high tech industries. Frank received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Cornell University and holds a certification as a Senior Professional of Human Resources (SPHR).
Dorian West Blair, J.D. is a HR professional and employment attorney with 15 years plus experience. After seven years of legal practice, she decided to use her extensive knowledge of federal and California state employment law and legal skills in the HR field. Dorian combines her legal and HR talents to coach senior management on HR solutions to business issues and goals, such as strategically-aligned incentive programs; FTE-reducing, efficiency-increasing reorganization plans; and successful leadership development training. She has advanced HR generalist skills with particular expertise in Employees Relations, Organizational Design, Talent Management and Total Compensation. Most recently, Dorian served as the Director of Human Resources for the UCSF School of Medicine – a $1B clinical and research enterprise. She is passionate about supporting businesses in the healthcare and life sciences industries. Dorian received her Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from UCLA and her law degree from Stanford University. She is a member of The State Bar of California and the District of Columbia Bar.
Reigin Zawadzki is the HR Manager at Theravance. She has 8 years of professional experience working in the biotech/pharma industry and Executive Search. She has been a member of BOLD since 2007 and now serves on the programs committee. She received a BS in Human Nutrition from Ohio State University.
