Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, BOLD is a best practice group for HR Professionals in the Life Science Industry. Primarily focused in the Organization Development and Talent Management aspect of Human Resources, BOLD is dedicated to growing the people that manage talent and develop their organization into the productive life science company it aspires to be. 

Collectively BOLD provides a voice for HR in the industry. We are small enough to be responsive to relevant industry issues, and big enough to address member needs beyond the reach of their organization. We look for and cultivate the “best of” among members, and offer a variety of options to network, learn and grow.

Introduction to growBOLD

Over 7 years ago the Biotech Organization Learning and Development (BOLD) Group began as a group of learning and development professionals in the biotech industry interested in networking and learning industry best practices.  We talked about how we saw a lot of waste and dissatisfaction in organizations - ineffective communications, challenges implementing organizational changes, and loss of quality talent to name a few.  We knew there was so much more possible - and we realized as Human Resource and Organization Development professionals that not only did we have a role, but a responsibility to make a difference.

A BOLD History

BOLD was born November of 2003 out of the desire to develop and inspire a community of professionals to deliver excellence and innovation through organization effectiveness in the Life Sciences Industry.  We realized that L&D professionals could leverage their learning and impact the human side of the science business.

Prior to January of 2008, we were an informal volunteer organization that offered lunch meetings six times a year featuring local experts and experienced HR and OD professional presentations, panels and discussion groups.  Twice a year, January and July, we co-hosted HR Mixers with the three biotech HR groups in the Bay Area (SHRG, BHRN and BOLD).   This tradition continues, although now we kick off our Mentorship Program at each of these events as well.

BOLD Committees

BOLD Core Team:  The Core Team consists of the leads for each of the Committees.  Governance questions and issues are addressed in monthly meetings.  The team is lead by Mary Ann Ireland, founder of BOLD.

Volunteer with BOLD

As growBOLD expands it's network and resources, there are a few opportunities for volunteers to participate.  In exchange for time and skills, growBOLD can offer volunteers membership, connections to the leaders on the Core Team, and exposure to the Life Sciences Industry.  A minimum of six months participation is required.  Estimated time will depend on the role and responsibilities of the position (estimated at 3 - 8 hours per month).
