Speaker Bios:
Jennifer Troia, SPHR, MHROD – Human Resources Consultant
In September 2009, Ms. Troia began sharing her expertise in the area of Human Resources as a professional consultant to organizations within the Biotechnology Industry. Previously, Ms. Troia spent a year as Vice President, Human Resources at CoMentis, Inc., and before that, she served as Vice President, Human Resources and Corporate Operations at Sunesis Pharmaceuticals where she held leadership positions of increasing responsibility since January 2001. She worked with COR Therapeutics between 1996 and 2001, playing a pivotal role in hiring a national sales force of more than 100 employees. With over 20 years of experience in Human Resources, she has also held positions at Gilead Sciences as well as in the high technology and investment banking industries. Prior to that, she was employed at 3M for seven years. Ms. Troia is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and has been serving on the Board of Directors of the Bay Area Human Resource Executives Council since 2004. Ms. Troia is a past chair of the Biotechnology Industry Organization’s Human Resources Conference. She holds a Masters in Human Resources and Organization Development from the University of San Francisco and is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by the Human Resource Certification Institute.
Scott Morrison – Coordinating Partner, Ernst and Young
Scott
Morrison is Ernst & Young’s U.S. Biotechnology and Medtech practice
leader and a member of the global industry steering committee. He has
26 years of local, national and global experience serving Biotechnology
and Medtech clients. Scott has served clients in every stage of growth
and has helped many companies through the challenges of launching
initial products. He has worked on numerous public and private
financings, including initial and follow-on offerings. His
professional experience includes corporate alliances, spinouts, joint
ventures and mergers & acquisitions.
Additionally, he is co-author of Ernst & Young’s 12th – 15th
Biotechnology Industry Report and is a frequent and well respected
speaker on industry matters. Scott is Ernst & Young’s liaison with
ABFO, a trade organization for bioscience financial officers. He is
also a former chairman and current treasurer of the Bay Area Bioscience
Center (BayBio), a founding board member of the Biotechnology Institute
and a member on the Biotechnology Industry Organizations (BIO) ECS
board (until 2005). He is also a member of the board of the Leukemia
and Lymphoma Society of America (Silicon Valley Chapter).
Peter Roddy – CFO, Pain Therapeutics
Peter Roddy has served as Chief Financial Officer of Pain Therapeutics since November 2002. From 1990 to 2002, Mr. Roddy held a variety of senior management positions at COR Therapeutics, Inc. (now Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc.) a biopharmaceutical company, including Senior Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer between 2000 and 2002. Prior to 1990, Mr. Roddy held a variety of positions at Price Waterhouse & Company, Hewlett Packard Company and MCM Laboratories, Inc. Mr. Roddy received his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley.
Chris Chai - Chief Financial Officer, MAP Pharmaceuticals
Mr. Chai has spent over 15 years in the healthcare and banking industries and brings with him experience in finance, strategy and operations. Prior to joining the company, he held key management positions at CV Therapeutics, including Vice President for Treasury and Investor Relations. While at CV Therapeutics, Mr. Chai played a key role in capital raising transactions. In addition to raising capital, he contributed to the development of business strategy, executed strategic financial transactions and managed relations with the analyst and investor communities. Prior to CV Therapeutics, Mr. Chai was a healthcare investment banker at JP Morgan where he worked on capital raising, including initial public offerings, and M&A and advisory transactions for a range of healthcare clients. Mr. Chai received his Bachelors of Science degree in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from Cornell University.
Janne Wissel – Senior Vice President, Chief Regulatory Officer and Chief Compliance Officer, Jazz Pharmaceuticals
Janne Wissel has served as Jazz Pharmaceuticals' Senior Vice President of Development since 2004. From 2003 to 2004, she served as Jazz Pharmaceuticals' Vice President of Development. From 1981 to 2003, she held various positions at ALZA Corporation, most recently as its Senior Vice President, Operations, with responsibility for ALZA Corporation's global regulatory, quality, general operations and manufacturing activities. She has led the development, registration and launch of more than 20 pharmaceutical products in the neurology, pediatric psychiatry, endocrinology, urology and oncology areas. Ms. Wissel received a B.S. from the University of California, Davis and an M.B.A. from the University of Phoenix.
