Session Topics:
Managers as Trainers by William Daniels
To
improve organizational productivity, there are high-leverage
opportunities for the use of managers as trainers. To make use of these
opportunities, organizational learning and development professionals
usually have to achieve two things. First, we make sure managers stop
teaching (and modeling) the wrong things. Their influence on others’
behavior is very real, but often unconscious and not very productive.
Second, we help managers be more effective in empowering others to get
their work done. Bill Daniels will share insights and processes he has
developed to improve organizational productivity by helping first-line
managers assist individual contributors to manage their own work:
Output, Feedback, Resource systems. For middle managers, the
methodology Bill will share is a new application of action learning.
Speed to Proficiency by John Darling
The difference between a key employee who's just OK v. one who is truly
proficient at their job can translate into millions of dollars to the
bottom line of any company. In any business arena where the
demonstrated mastery of new knowledge and skills is critical to the
success of the business speed to proficiency is the name of the game.
However, putting in place learning processes that build true
proficiency is a tough proposition. If it was easy, everybody would be
doing it – but it takes time, energy and resources to provide the
reinforcement and coaching required to do it right. In his presentation
John Darling will be discussing how to: (a) Create & implement
technology-enabled proficiency-based learning processes, (b) Leverage
informal learning and social learning to realize a huge ROI, and (c)
Lessons learned from 10 years of trial & error.
Learn, Do, Teach: Transforming Leaders into Learning Agents by Stacy Porter
Stacey Porter will present a case study of a learning initiative
designed to transform scientific leaders into organizational teachers
& story tellers. The results of this successful initiative were
widespread knowledge of the interdisciplinary nature of drug discovery,
deeper recognition and respect for internal leaders, and demonstrated
commitment from departmental leaders to share expertise throughout the
organization.
