Scott Morrison – Coordinating Partner, Ernst and Young
U.S. Biotechnology and Medtech Industry Leader

Scott Morrison is Ernst & Young’s U.S. Biotechnology and Medtech practice leader and a member of the global industry steering committee.  He has 26 years of local, national and global experience serving Biotechnology and Medtech clients.  Scott has served clients in every stage of growth and has helped many companies through the challenges of launching initial products.  He has worked on numerous public and private financings, including initial and follow-on offerings.  His professional experience includes corporate alliances, spinouts, joint ventures and mergers & acquisitions. 

Additionally, he is co-author of Ernst & Young’s 12th – 15th Biotechnology Industry Report and is a frequent and well respected speaker on industry matters.  Scott is Ernst & Young’s liaison with ABFO, a trade organization for bioscience financial officers.  He is also a former chairman and current treasurer of the Bay Area Bioscience Center (BayBio), a founding board member of the Biotechnology Institute and a member on the Biotechnology Industry Organizations (BIO) ECS board (until 2005).  He is also a member of the board of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America (Silicon Valley Chapter).

Randy Haykin - Chairman, Haykin Capital
Randy Haykin is a well-known entrepreneur, angel, and venture professional in the Silicon Valley, where he has worked with start-up ventures over a 30-year career.  After leaving Brown University (BA) and Harvard (MBA) he came to Apple Computer in 1988.  In the early 1990’s, Mr. Haykin was Director of Business Development at the Paramount Media Kitchen and helped fund and launch three content businesses while at Viacom/Paramount.  In 1995, he joined the start-up team at Yahoo! and became the company’s first VP Marketing and Sales. Following Yahoo!’s successful IPO, Randy formed Interactive Minds – a venture “catalyst” organization.  Interactive Minds helped launch dozens of innovative Internet companies, including over 30 content companies through the creation of The AOL Greenhouse program, and Overture (in collaboration with IdeaLab). 

In 1997, Mr. Haykin launched a series of three venture funds, called Outlook Ventures.  In over twelve years as Managing Director, and three funds totaling over $200M under management, Outlook has invested in over 35 software companies in the enterprise, consumer and infrastructure arenas and has many successes with their portfolio companies.  Today, Mr. Haykin is Chairman of Haykin Capital, which launches and invests in a variety of technology, consumer and real estate endeavors.  He is also a co-partner in Forward Innovation Labs, which launches and catalyzes a variety of early-stage businesses and a member of the faculty at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.

Kristen Firpo - Organization & Change, Human Capital, Deloitte Consulting, LLP

Kristen Firpo works for Deloitte Consulting providing Organizational Development consulting services. Kristen has over ten years of experience leading a full spectrum of communication and change initiative programs for organizations in high growth phases. Kristen has extensive HR experience working closely with senior management to provide leadership around coaching and strategic guidance on complex talent management, change management and employment matters. Principal duties include implementing enterprise wide workforce planning program and performance management system to increase the organization effectiveness. Her area of specialty is leading projects and strategies to change the structure and culture to better adapt to new technologies, growth and challenges. Kristen received a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications from San Diego State University and a Masters of Science in Organization Development from University of San Francisco.
